In 1984 a group of like-minded conservationists came together, representing provincial wildlife agencies, grass roots conservation organizations and Environment Canada. This joint task force had one goal in mind: to come up with a program that could protect, restore and enhance vital wildlife and their habitats across the country.

Since 1985, Wildlife Habitat Canada has provided over $55 million in grants to more than 1,500 habitat conservation projects across Canada through its granting program. We envision a future where Canadians share a conservation ethic that recognizes the fundamental importance of wildlife habitats that are abundant, rich and support biodiversity.
