Services
Report
It is estimated that 20% of women experience pelvic pain at some point in their lives. Numerous studies have shown that the musculoskeletal system is often a primary or secondary cause of pelvic pain in women; therefore, physical therapy plays a major role in the diagnosis and treatment of female pelvic pain.
For Men
Report
An estimated 8% to 10% of all men will suffer from pelvic pain at some point in their lives, according to statistics. Frustratingly, many medical organizations, still refer to pelvic pain as a "women's health issue.". Equally frustrating is that not all pelvic floor physical therapists are trained to evaluate and treat a male patient with pelvic pain.
First visit
Report
Ask you questions about your bowel, bladder and sexual function as the pelvic musculature involves all three functions. Assess your pelvic floor muscles. This can be performed vaginally or rectally. This is not a pelvic exam (no stirrups or speculum is utilized); it is an assessment of the pelvic musculature.
Treatment
Report
Relaxation training of the pelvic floor musculature. Treatment of trigger points, connective tissue mobilization, lower extremity flexibility exercises, core/abdominal strengthening. Core/abdominal strengthening, spinal mobilization, body mechanics training, postural re-education, lower extremity flexibility exercises, myofascial release, and trigger point release.
