Heel Pain
Report
Plantar fasciitis is the term for heel and arch pain due to inflammation and strain of the plantar fascia. This thick band of tissue starts at the heel bone, runs across the arch of the foot, and attaches to the base of the toes. Its purpose is to support the arch of the foot. Often, plantar fasciitis is characterized by increased pain after a period of rest-for example, during your first steps upon waking up.
Nerves
Report
Peripheral neuropathy is a condition in which nerve damage in the feet or hands leads to weakness, tingling, and numbness. When the peripheral nerves can't relay signals to the brain, this can cause pain, usually a pins-and-needles or burning feeling, leading to a partial or total loss of sensation.
Tendons
Report
Tendons connect muscles to bones. Your Achilles tendon runs down the back of your lower leg and connects the calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) to the heel bone (calcaneus) and is also called the "heel cord". The Achilles tendon facilitates walking by raising the heel off the ground. Achilles tendinosis is a condition in which chronic overuse deteriorates the integrity of the tendon, causing pain and stiffness.
