The Neighborhood Academy is a truly exceptional learning community that values character development, the self-respect that comes through hard work, academic achievement, and responsibility to and for the community. Our students learn to think well, write well, and speak well, all with an eye to a future when they will live well.
The results of our commitment are simply extraordinary - 100% of our seniors are accepted to college, and an average of 77% graduate from college in five years or less (well above the national average)! About Us
Report
The Neighborhood Academy, comprised of a middle school and high school, is designed to remove every barrier that prevents young people from thinking about their futures and the steps needed to achieve their goals. Our holistic set of programs ensures that all issues affecting young people are addressed.
Our Approach
Report
Our faculty and staff deliberately cultivate a school culture that is inviting, familial, safe, and invigorating. Young people, especially those from distressed communities, cannot learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that lacks emotional warmth. In order to meet the academic needs of our students, we run a comprehensive school calendar.
Mission Statement
Report
The Neighborhood Academy is a faith-based, college preparatory, independent school whose mission is to break the cycle of generational poverty by empowering youth and preparing them for college and citizenship. The Neighborhood Academy (TNA) exists to provide a holistic college-prep education for students in grades 6-12 who come from families who demonstrate financial need.
History
Report
The Neighborhood Academy was founded in 2001 serving 8th and 9th grade students from under-served communities to provide them with the educational, spiritual, and emotional resources to succeed. The year-round school was established based on a feasibility study funded by the R.K. Mellon Foundation, and opened its doors in a renovated warehouse on Penn Avenue.
