American Sea Fishing is owned and run by Ben Hervey-Murray - a catch and release sport angler with over thirty years experience of fishing around the world, from fly fishing for Canadian Rockies trout to wrangling giant leopard sharks from the surf in California. Ben started out fishing around his hometown of Cambridge, UK in the 80s and 90s, and was a successful competition angler for several years before turning his attention to specimen hunting and challenges abroad.
After working as a reporter for Angling Times, sub-editor and digital editor of Angler's Mail in the UK, and media manager in the tackle industry for a decade, Ben moved to the US and set up American Sea Fishing to share the amazing fishing opportunities the Pacific ocean Offers with other anglers.

For 2021, we are offering three types of fishing trips in Southern California with a CDFW-licensed and bonded guide: general surf fishing lessons for anyone looking to learn how to catch fish from the beach; half-day surf shark fishing for leopard sharks and large rays; and longer land-based shark fishing trips targeting soupfin sharks and a range of seasonal shark species with an emphasis on larger specimens.

We run guided surf and shark fishing trips in Southern California, mainly around LA County and Orange County areas. Our guiding service is licensed and bonded through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and we offer a variety of beach-based sessions targeting all of the commonly available surf and shark species found in our area, including leopard sharks, soupfin sharks, surf perch, spotfin croaker, yellowfin croaker, rays and corbina.
