Bellingham Music started as Harris Music in 1983. Originally located in downtown Fairhaven, Harris Music was the premier destination in Bellingham for quality acoustic instruments and guitar instruction. After a move from Fairhaven to North State Street in Bellingham, the name was changed to its current Bellingham Music.
The new, larger location in downtown Bellingham allowed for an expansion of inventory and additional offerings for music lessons. Bellingham Academy of Music became the new name for the school portion of the business. In 2009 Bellingham Music moved to its current location at the corner of State & Champion Streets where it has established itself as a convenient and valuable asset to the musical community in Whatcom County.

Rates & Policies
Report
Monthly tuitions are billed on the 1st of each month unless arrangements are made between the student and Bellingham Music. Tuition is pre-paid for the upcoming month based on the anticipated schedule of lessons. Any changes during the month will be adjusted and prorated accordingly. Rates for group classes, performance groups, jam sessions, etc are determined by class depending on staffing and facility needs, supplies and other factors.

We stick to the name Bellingham Music ourselves, but since the 1980's the names Harris Avenue Music and Bellingham Academy of Music have been used too! For over 35 years we have provided instruction in guitar, over the years adding a suite of instruments to meet the needs of the community.
Today we have instruction on guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, orchestral instruments, woodwinds, folk instruments, drums, percussion, voice and even electronic production.Every student is unique in their personality, learning styles, physical features, musical goals and more. Our goal is to provide traditional, fundamental music instruction with a friendly, modern approach.

The Sax Gym

This program is open on a membership basis. It gets lonely practicing in the studio weekday mornings. Come on in and join us for a morning cup of coffee and practice session. This is not intended to be a lesson or class, but instead a motivating and fun way to get supervised practice, private studio time or group practice.

Bellingham Music is staffed by active musicians and instructors who rely on instruments everyday for teaching, practicing, recording and performing. We care about quality, craftmanship and every instrument's "personality" and aim to provide a more efficient way for customers to rent. We are an affiliate of Veritas Instrument Rentals (VIR).
