I like to keep things simple. I believe we're all here to help each other. I went to law school so I could help people with their legal problems and make sure they get treated fairly, and with the respect we all deserve, even in stressful situations, and even if we're in the wrong. Another part of the way I practice law is to keep reminding myself that everyone wants to be treated fairly - not just you, or me, but everyone.
If the other side is trying to take unfair advantage of you and your situation, I'll be happy to make them knock it off, but I find it's usually better to start from a position of assuming good intent on both sides, being polite and professional, and seeing where that takes us. Experience has taught me that this usually leads to the best outcome.

I'll start out by listening to you as you tell me your problem(s) and what you think is the best way to solve them. Next, I'll point out that the viewpoints of the other party (and possibly the court) also have to be taken into consideration, and I'll show you why their viewpoint(s) affect the number of choices available to you and the possible outcomes of each of those choices.
