He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and received his education in Los Angeles, California; Rochester, Minnesota; Seattle, Washington; and Tampa, Florida. Dr. Chung graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Highest Honors in Biology. As an undergraduate, she was selected as a Johnston Scholar which provided a four year full scholarship based on academic achievement, peer leadership, and community service. She then earned her medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
