Founded in 1976 by Dr. Rita Simo, a Juilliard-trained pianist from the Dominican Republic, the legacy of tuition-free music education began in a repurposed barber shop, until a vacant lot on a residential block in Uptown eventually became its permanent home.Our mission is to deliver access to the benefits of high-quality, tuition-free music education.

My entire career has been dedicated to the idea that the experience of learning and making music has tremendous power. Yes, students who make music can explore their talent, have fun, and make friends, which are all important.
However, I have seen firsthand the true transformation that takes place when a student discovers that they can perform something they never thought possible, work harder than they ever have before, create something new out of thin air, and build something beautiful with others.That kind of learning experience truly unlocks incredible potential in children.
