Dyslexia Tutoring Program
The mission statement of Dyslexia Tutoring Program is to work with low-income children and adults who are dyslexic or have a language-based learning disability.

This is accomplished through a professional assessment, and if needed, tutoring by volunteer tutors whom we have trained in researched-based multi-sensory skills using the tenets of Orton-Gillingham, a method of teaching reading, writing, and spelling through supplemental programs proven to be the most effective. This free training is for prospective tutors who have applied and been accepted into Dyslexia Tutoring Program.

Our History
Report
In 1984, a group of concerned citizens in Southeast Baltimore noticed a pattern with repeat juvenile offenders that was related to their dyslexia. The group enlisted the help of the late Roger Saunders, an internationally-known psychologist in the field of dyslexia, who confirmed that the offenders were dyslexic.
I Am A Current Tutor
Report
Tutors are required to file a Monthly Student Report with DTP. Monthly Reports are vital to our program as they provide the status and accountability of tutored hours for both students and tutors. Please fill out one report for each month of tutoring. When you click submit, the form will be sent to DTP.
I Want To Be A Tutor

The Dyslexia Tutoring Program provides volunteers with the opportunity to receive personal satisfaction through helping someone improve the quality of his or her life. All tutors must be at least 18 years of age, with a high-school diploma. Good command of the English language is also important. All applicants will meet with the Education Coordinator, complete an application with a background check, and receive training before becoming a tutor.
