I recently had a good laugh with a student with whom I've been working for many years. She confessed that when her dad told her he was hiring a tutor that went to Harvard, she had expected me to show up in a suit. But part of my skill in teaching is drawn from the other things I do: I'm a published author and poet (five books so far).
Before that, I was a singer-songwriter in the folk-rock band Crooked Roads (three CDs and lots of shows), and before that I was a comedy screenwriter (I optioned a screenplay to Warner Bros. and have been hired for various other screenwriting work). I also work out regularly, run, and play basketball and tennis.

Quality teaching is much more than just knowing the answers or having information at your fingertips. Quality teaching is about paying attention to the individual student who shows up to learn. It's about creating a foundation of trust so that a student feels relaxed, secure, and willing to ask questions.
Test Prep

One of my specialties is helping students prepare for all sections of the ACT and SAT. This work is individualized for each student. Unlike test prep companies, I don't review material your teen already knows or skim over areas he or she needs extra time on. We focus on specific things your teen needs to know or practice, while helping your teen feel as relaxed and focused as possible.

You can find tutors who charge less than I do. It would be difficult, however, to find a tutor with as much experience, expertise, and sensitivity to the students he works with. I graduated summa cum laude from Harvard, but there's so much more to tutoring than credentials. I'm happy to talk to you about your particular situation!
