Psychotherapy & Counseling Services in San Francisco
With nearly three decades of experience, I have dedicated my career to helping individuals and couples achieve meaningful personal growth through psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. My practice emphasizes creating a safe, trusting environment where clients can explore their inner worlds and relationships. Drawing from an eclectic approach, I tailor sessions to address each client's unique needs, whether they seek relief from anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. My background as a writer has enhanced my ability to listen deeply and engage clients in thoughtful dialogue about their lives. I specialize in working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ communities, and focus on fostering self-compassion and emotional resilience.

My practice integrates insights from contemporary relational psychoanalysis to help clients resolve past traumas and build more fulfilling futures. I offer both short-term counseling and long-term psychoanalytic treatment, adapting to each client's goals and circumstances. My commitment to active, empathetic engagement distinguishes my approach from more passive therapeutic styles. I also provide consultation and supervision to fellow mental health professionals, sharing my expertise in psychoanalytic theory and practice. Prospective clients can schedule initial sessions through phone, video call, or in-person visits to my San Francisco office.

I highly recommend Michael Korson. I can only speak to his skills as a group therapist, but I'm sure he would be a great therapist 1-on-1 as well, because he has the important elements: he's respectful, kind, intelligent, and ethical. Most importantly, Michael gives clients the right amount of space to do their therapeutic work, without taking over or telling them what to do (which never works). I've found his feedback to be thoughtful and insightful.

I missed an appt with Michael one day, he called me, very rude saying "Well I'm here, I don't know where you are?"

After that I was finding a new therapist, that's where I was. Look elsewhere for a therapist, I saw him for over a year and never had any "ah ha!" moments with him.
