Purple Hands Winery
Native to Oregon vineyards and farmland, owners Cody and Marque Wright are most intrigued by wines that reveal the history of their native landscape. Cody, our winemaker, has been in the cellar his whole life, with stints at home and abroad-following in his family's footsteps. Growing up with some of Oregon's finest winemaking and grape-growing mentors gave Cody a passion for quality and a deep understanding of the work it takes to strive for excellence.

The name Purple Hands is meant to depict this work: the work of harvest when your hands are purple and black and rugged from long days and nights of pushing yourself to create and sustain quality; the work that comes from the heart; the work fundamentals that Cody and Marque's families demonstrate and that they hope their children will embrace.

The Farming
Report
We work diligently every year to ensure that our wines convey millions of years of geographical history to those who drink them. From Jory (Volcanic) to Marine Sedimentary, soil type affects the fruit characteristics of the wine (red, blue, or black) as well as its spice, earth, and sweet or savory attributes.
The Vineyards
Report
Located 28 miles southwest of Portland, the Dundee Hills AVA encompasses 6,490 acres with geology dating back 15 million years when lava flowed from northeast Oregon and pushed into the Willamette Valley, covering all but the highest hills with up to 1,000 feet of basalt.

The catastrophic Missoula floods 10-15,000 years ago deposited a blanket of sediment on land below the 200 ft elevation, sparing the original red volcanic hills above the small town of Dundee.Today, the 200 ft contour line defines the Dundee Hills AVA. North of McMinnville, Oregon, in the Northern Willamette Valley, the land slowly rises to the hamlets of Carlton and Yamhill.
