Individual Counseling
Report
Faced with tough decisions, under duress, not sure how to proceed-people often experience pervasive worry or transitory dips in mood, confidence, and motivation. Perhaps it is the loss of a spouse, a child, a job, or the realization that a life-long dream is just not going to happen. Awake in the middle of the night and alone, purpose and joy can feel distant.
Addiction Treatment
Report
Whether it is dependence on substances (drugs or alcohol) or behaviors (gambling or sex), addiction involves compulsively seeking to use a substance or engage in a behavior regardless of the potentially negative social, psychological, relational, and physical consequences. Breaking an addiction is difficult, but not impossible.
Children and Teens Therapy
Report
Therapy with children may involve simply talking about the child's concerns, but very often children are too young to verbally articulate what is on their minds. Working with children facing tough times, our therapists often us Play as a way to help children learn to self-regulate behavior and emotions, problem-solve, reduce anxieties and fears, and build self-esteem.
Trauma
Report
Trauma can be as slight as a child's humiliating moment at school, or it can be as horrific as rape, surviving a life-threatening car accident, or being exposed to combat. At Woodlands Family Institute, P.C., we approach trauma from several perspectives. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Meditation, and Mindfulness have all been shown through research to be helpful.
Assessment
Report
You know the difficulties in just managing your life, or you see the behaviors your child has that seem to make every moment the source of chronic worry and frustration. But how do you know where to begin?
Psychological assessment often answers that question by pinpointing just the right adjustment that makes all the difference or by uncovering the information that points the way forward through a carefully crafted treatment plan or behavioral program to restore optimal growth and functioning.

If you are looking for marriage counseling, I would highly recommend looking somewhere else. Our counselor was Stephen Parham Ph.D. and after multiple sessions I personally did not believe in him. He mostly spoke of the practices from John Gottman who is a well-known therapist and author and it was recommended that I read one of his books "The Man’s Guide to Women" which I did. The book probably would have been good if I was in my early twenties and not my forties. Also, I have been with my spouse for over twenty years so I was a little surprised when he recommended this book. I thought hmmm

The staff is kind. I saw Joshua Brown for counseling after some difficult experiences and he helped me navigate those things, find strength I didn't know I had, and allow me to experience what it is like to be known and understood in a way that catapulted me to succeed in so many areas of my life. I recommend him to every couple or individual looking to experience a more authentic, vibrant, and fulfilling life. Josh is your guy.

I’ve seen Josh for 5+ yrs. Found him via google search for “cognitive therapists” and was happy with his communication and service from day one. He’s a great listener and contrary to other therapists I’ve experienced, he empowers you to work through challenges yourself, (as opposed to giving his own biased advice and hoping it applies.)
I feel like he’s made a major impact in my learning to cope with issues and I’m grateful for it.
On a personal note...very warm, friendly and non judgmental. Highly recommend.

Woodlands Family Institute has a diverse, well-qualified and caring team of professionals. The diversity of the team provides an ability to deal with a variety of issues. They have made very good recommendations for needs outside their immediate area of expertise. Their staff makes extra efforts to accommodate scheduling issues.
