Spine & Sport offers individualized treatment programs using the KLEIMAN-BIOMECHANICAL CORRECTION TECHNIQUES (BCT). BCT is a clinically proven therapeutic exercise program developed by Shirley A. Kleiman, DPT, PT, OCS, cert. MDT. BCT is only offered at her private practice, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The focus of BCT is to teach patients specific exercises to achieve and maintain optimal function for a lifetime of improved physical performance. BCT takes a skeletal to muscular perspective of the body to help minimize pain, medication use and most importantly the need for surgical intervention. Our facility offers private examination and treatment room, a separate fully equipped gym area, and highly qualified BCT trained therapists.

The body is designed for movement; when limited internally, it may attempt compensation through external movement patterns. Our amazing bodies have the ability to "right the wrong, " to release, repair, and remodel. Congenital is not synonymous with irreversible. Symptoms often occur when the body has reached its compensatory threshold.
Activity
Report
When sitting on the boat, use a compressible cushion and sit centered with weight equally distributed on buttocks. When done boating, get in the water and swim to take advantage of the water's buoyancy to unload your spine before heading back on land. Personal water craft may have a wide seat requiring thighs to be positioned far apart.
Sports
Report
Position and mobility of the wrist and hand with the grip to control face angle of racquet. Make sure your motion is symmetrical in your lower and upper limbs and that your gait is rhythmic. If you are a student/patient of BCT, perform your checks and corrections the night before the race and again in the morning prior to racing.
Seasonal

Invest in a pair of shoe/boot treks that can be slid over the sole of your footwear with rubber/coiled grids or small spikes. Get out your golf shoes early and wear the low grade spikes for grip ease when doing chores outdoors. If in a pinch, carry several large rubber bands in your car or on you to place around your footwear before taking steps.
