Liberation Yoga is a Hatha-based yoga studio in mid-city Los Angeles founded in 2004 by Christine Burke and Gary McCleery. They wanted to build a community and place to make peace with your body, mind, and the world-to find Liberation. They sought an alternative to the corporate yoga vibe and mentality that was fast uprooting independent studios in Los Angeles (and beyond).
The past 18 months have been spent navigating an endless terrain of adrenal overload, information saturation and the stress of constant divides. But this is also the perfect fertilizer for rebirth and renewal. Pressure can lead to depression or expansion - it's all about alignment. Summer is a time for growth, joy, play and expansion.
Our training will guide you into a deeper understanding of Hatha Yoga and a deeper connection to yourself. It is meant to inspire, nourish, and teach the seeker in you. This training can serve as the beginning of a rewarding life that includes teaching yoga or an immersion into the heart of a practice that serves you and that you feel passionate about.
Family Yoga | A one hour all levels Hatha yoga class for the whole family to enjoy! The class will explore standing poses, sun salutations, breathing and relaxation techniques as well as fun interactive games. Little Yogis/Ages 2-5yrs | This joyful exploration of yoga is the perfect way to set your little yogi in motion and even into a bit of stillness!
What to do when you want to take class: Come in! No appointment or reservation necessary (though if you'd like to have something to make you accountable to your intentions please feel free to sign up through MindBody). What to wear: Wear comfortable clothes you can move in without them falling over your face because you might (will) have your head below your heart at some point.

I booked a package on Groupon, it said no reservation needed all you had to do was show up 15 min ahead. No indication that these are zoom classes. The phone # does not work I tried calling since the night before. Really unprofessional and threw my whole day off track. The phone # should have atleast been available

This is a fraud! They are either no longer in business or are in the worst management chaos. I bought a first month unlimited access package ($45) and booked a class. When I got to the building shortly before the class time, the building was locked and no one answered the door. I tried calling them several times and could only teach a voicemail already full and no longer able to record messages. What a sham!

Great yoga studio! The teachers here are beyond compare. They are very professional and knowledgeable. I always feel worlds better after class. They also have very good classes for beginners, as the teachers are very detailed and explain things thoroughly. The advanced classes are also great! It is a well-rounded place. Highly recommend!!

Great yoga studio. Have taken classes with at least seven of the teachers, and they've all been good. My fave though is Pagan, because of his welcome reminder to drop into the heart space, wacky sense of humor that undercuts the serious yogi pretension, 25 years of experience and training, and the physically challenging nature of his classes. These are workouts that make me long to stay in shavasana all day long. Also, his zoom classes have also been a great way to see familiar faces during the stay-at-home pandemic. That said, the studio is a wonderful space as well.

In 19 years of living in LA and taking many yoga classes, Christine's class is unparalled. She connects the many aspects of yoga - spirit, mind/body, breath, mudras, asana sequencing, and themes - flawlessly and with so much HEART! Her way of teaching is truly transformational, joyful, authentic, inspiring, peaceful, and profound. She is such a gift to the yoga community and to the World!

I was invited to come with a friend who had a groupon. I really enjoyed it! The space was beautiful inside. It had a very peaceful vibe and was open and smelled good. Also, the teacher did a good job of adapting to the levels of everyone in the room and being kind in the adjustments he gave. I learned some new things. Parking was very hard to find though, as was the building from the outside. The only negative feedback was that the class was a bit too long. I would have preferred one hour only.

Immensely grateful for finding liberation. christine and gary have really cultivated a sense of community in this beautiful yoga studio space - one always feels welcome and safe to practice in the studio, and to grow, evolve and learn from such amazing teachers. i have never experienced such attentive instructors who focus so much on alignment and my well being than at liberation.

I've been to three classes with three different instructors and I enjoyed the variety. I learned something new and different from each one. I especially liked Christine's class because chanting and Oms are one of my favorite things about Yoga. I'm definitely going back here again.

Found this place through groupon and I really like it. First of all, there is parking! Second, they dont try to "rent" you yoga mats, they are free (I'd still recommend bringing your own), all the instructors have been great and there are a variety of classes. I got bitten by mosquitos once, that wasn't great but I am not going to knock a point for that. I think I am about to become a regular here.

I am super bummed to give this place a negative email but my experience has not been positive. The man who answers the phone is really hard to communicate with and the Body Positive classes listed on their website are no longer being offered. To be fair, I've never attended a class, this rating is based solely on how difficult it was to reach a live person and the challenges in getting clear, accurate information about the studio. Didn't get a whole lot of namaste with this place, so, nama-stay away.

Liberation is my new yoga home! Their new studio is beautiful and spacious and filled with natural light - very serene vibes. They don't have AC though so the studio can get a bit hot on warmer days. The studio is also right next to a busy street and is not very sound-proofed so can be a little harder to feel that disconnect from the outside world. But they do provide mats and all sorts of props so beginners should feel totally welcome to just walk in.

They have a wide array of class options for various skill levels at many times throughout the day. There's certainly a class for everyone

I've been going to Liberation since I moved to LA 5 years ago. It's my favorite studio in LA and the one that feels most like a community, even tho I drop in and out and my attendance frequency varies. It's not a studio that runs clockwork and it has its imperfections.

The approach to yoga here is very heart and soul centered; all classes are a full 1.5hrs long so you learn about the dharma and have time for breath work and a truly respectable shavasana, in addition to the physical/flow part of class. Something I really value. Prices for classes are super reasonable too- and KCRW

I took RadhAs 90 minute yoga class and it was amazing! I have taken a lot of yoga begin her classes and by far hers is the best! She actually goes into detail how to do the yoga moves in detail!

Usually when I take yoga I feel like when I'm done with the classed my wrists are sore however she taught us how to do the downward dog where we would not be in pain!

After her class I feel like my hips are looser and I feel more flexible!

Didn't make it past the front desk. Class seemed to start 5 minutes early and wasn't allowed to go in until after the lecture. Waited for 10 minutes and left. Probably great teachers, but not a great reception.

Got a Groupon for 10 classes here for around $50 bucks.
Have been coming once a week with a friend to Christine's class and I LOVE it. The little back room where they do the yoga is beautiful, breathtaking, and peaceful. I always feel so blissed out in there.
Christine is lovely and it is something I look forward to every single week. :)
Tip: park in the back where the alleyway is!

I really liked it. People are nice.
They have small parking spots behind but we parked on street.

This studio is the best in the city.I have been practicing at Liberation for over 10 years . The studio is beautiful, with art, glimmering tea lights, natural plants, candles, buddhas in the garden, and one wall inside that is coated with metallic shimmery gold . The outside "garden" studio has a wooden plank floor and tree branches winding through it.The feeling is very peaceful, truly an urban zen garden. The owners of the studio are exceptional people having created this studio on their own without a corporate entity behind them.Their personal attention to every detail shows.

I bought a Groupon to try something in the neighborhood. I am so glad I did. I had my first Basic 1 yoga session on Sunday at 12 noon and I really like the space and teacher.

The teacher was subbing, so I am interested in the regular session teacher, Mark. The basic one class was just exactly what I was looking for. Stretch, breathe and holding a pose was perfect. I have a bad back and this was perfect. The sub teacher regularly teaches restorative, and I am interested in taking her class at 2 on Sunday.

Another area that attracts me to this place is that the weekend classes aren't at

ATTENTION CLASSPASS USERS

This place is a huge gamble, which I ended up losing. They do not seem to understand how to work their schedule, or how ClassPass works, which results in you losing your credit/time/ability to book another class in your missed time frame. Here's my story:

I had a 4:30 pm class today with "Liberation Yoga" on La Brea in Los Angeles and when I knocked on the locked door a man who works there told me "we don't have a 4:30 class and we haven't in a while." Then why the hell is it on ClassPass and I'm able to sign up!? Why is there

Omg no.

I was excited to see this place on class pass as I've been eyeing it for a while since the colorful storefront on La Brea is so cute and I drive by it all the time.

I came here on a Friday night to take a gentle restorative classes. I love evening restorative yoga classes because they're an opportunity for me to totally zone out, get stretched and meditate which puts me into a great mood for the evening.

Classpass members were advised to show up 15 minutes early so I did and the door was locked. Another guy and I stood around until they let us in.

The space itself is GORGEOUS

I've only ever taken classes in The Garden (outdoor area) and I followed a teacher (Mary Fanto) here from another studio, but the experiences so far have been wonderful. It's a welcoming, peaceful space. And of course, I recommend Mary's class. She's a life-changer.

The nitty gritty: This isn't a sign up in advance kinda situation. I called once to ask and the front desk person said, "Oh, just show up." So I typically show up 10 min early, sign in, chill in the hallway until the other class ends. There are cubbies to stash your stuff, but depending on where

I love liberation so much, I took their teacher training classes and now feel like Liberation is my second home. I love everyone who works there! The classes are wonderful! I love Christine, Pagan and Steven Espinosa, Janice, Ella's classes all push me further into my practice. They have amazing teachers! They have maintained the integrity of traditional yoga and you can feel that calming energy the minute you walk in the door. If your feeling exhausted, try Jeanne's restorative yoga. It's like cuddling up with yourself for a recharging!
