Montavilla Community Acupuncture
Located on the east side of Mount Tabor in Southeast Portland, Montavilla Community Acupuncture (MCA) offers acupuncture and Chinese medicine to individuals as well as to groups. We believe that people have a right to good health and well-being and aim to make our clinic a place for realizing both-at affordable rates.

Every appointment is 50 minutes long, which allows for completing a pre-screening checklist, doing an intake interview, and receiving treatment. There will be a bin for personal items; please try to limit the number of items brought into the clinic. Spaces for community acupuncture are limited and by missing an appointment, that seat is no longer available to another community patient.

About Us
Report
O.M, and Mia Neuse, L.Ac., M.A.O.M first started to look for a place to practice together in the Montavilla neighborhood in late 2006. John had been working in a clinic in SW Portland, while Mia was practicing further east near SE 122nd and SE Stark. We both wanted a "mixed" clinic-one that offered both community acupuncture and private treatments.

Report
I first became interested in shiatsu and Chinese medicine in the early 90s when an injury I had didn't respond to conventional Western medicine. I was living in Japan at the time, so while there I studied shiatsu, Japanese acupressure massage, with a Master practitioner. Both shiatsu and Chinese medicine have the same roots and are based on the same principles of "qi, " or vital energy, and meridians, the channels of "qi" throughout the body.

Report
Prevention of disease and early treatment of symptoms in order to stop disease progression is the underlying principle of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is one aspect of Chinese medicine. It stimulates innate healing mechanisms in the body, which makes it valuable as a therapy in shortening the course of an illness and as a preventative care modality as a means to address mild to moderate imbalances.
Pain
Report
Pain, which can include fatigue, is a necessary response to issues such as injury. We forget when we take OTC medications that reduce sensations of pain that we are potentially doing harm. Pain, after all, can prevent further injury by making sure we protect ourselves, not overdo it, and avoid re-injury.
