Family Black Belt Academy
We offer some of the best martial art classes in Seattle for kids, teens, adults, and families. We wrote a book! Leo's Notes is a fun and innovative children's book which uses the core tenants of the Family Black Belt Academy curriculum as a tool to teach children listening and focus skills through the telling of Leo's exciting journey accompanying Master Illiana on her quest to become a grandmaster.

Martial arts train the entirety of an individual, developing physical, mental, and emotional strength. Emphasizing progress rather than perfection, we challenge each other to strive and be better than we were yesterday, both in and outside the dojo. The confidence my girls have gained from their martial art classes is absolutely priceless.

We take pride in the success of our students, so we invited some of our community members to share their stories in their own words. Master Purcell and his team teaches kids not only martial arts, but life long skills focusing on social skills, survival, and respect. I have full confidence my kids are better people because of his classes.

Youth Classes
Report
Martial arts training helps young people develop both fine and gross motor skills, as well as strength, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory fitness. It also helps young people to understand physical fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle, and develop good habits early. Moreover, martial arts training teaches young people that health is not only physical; true health includes a person's internal state.

At our school, we emphasize that the people we practice with are our partners, not opponents. It's an important distinction; we want our students, especially our younger students, to practice with empathy, respect, and consideration of others. These values are important to the development of the individual, particularly in relation to others.
