Chances are you're interested in karate for many reasons - physical fitness, self-improvement, self-defense, or as a way to unwind after work. Choosing a karate school (dojo) is a very important step. You need to be sure you find the place that is right for you. You want a dojo where the atmosphere is friendly and the training is serious.
Where there's a sense of mutual respect. Where each student is able to progress at his or her own rate, depending on ability and level of commitment. At the Ueshiro Midtown Dojo you will be introduced to traditional Okinawan karate, the original form, as it has been practiced for centuries. You will learn the physical aspects of karate when you begin.

A great place to leave the stresses of our everyday lives behind us and appreciate our capabilities as humans. Even in the heart of bustling midtown Manhattan this dojo takes you back to Okinawa to learn the ways and traditional skills of the Karate masters who came before us. People of all different ethnicities and cultures are welcome here. Whether you are in your 20s, 50s or 70s, you will find something to take away from every class!

If interested in learning a martial art, the Midtown Karate Dojo will exceed all expectations. I began training there over 15 years ago with no experience, but with a curiosity in the martial arts, an appetite to learn and interest in getting fit. It was awesome! Teachers are exceptional; classes are every day to meet any schedule; and Shorin Ryu Karate is a natural style, for any body type. It is a traditional form with a long history and lineage of accomplished and world renowned Sensei, which is very cool.

When I first started training in Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate I was looking for something all encompassing. Something traditional that would help me build physical strength, practical self-defense skills, and deal with the challenges life through my way. The Midtown Karate Dojo became the vehicle that allowed me to reach some of these goals and do so at my own pace. The great thing about this place is that "Karate is a Lifetime Marathon" so the goal setting and learning never ends.

As a young woman I was intrigued by the martial arts, but at age 27, it seemed like a far-fetched idea to start training.
Once I visited Ueshiro Midtown Karate Dojo, it became almost a sanctuary, and through the years (which are many), I developed great dexterity both physically and mentally. Learning the Katas (fighting forms which date centuries old, original from Okinawa), I have felt like an ancient warrior coming back alive; or at most where as far as imagination takes one.
Within the chaos of our modern world, the dojo (Karate school) awaits for me. You should give it a try and see, it

Prior to trying Ueshiro Shorin Ryu karate I practiced a few other Martial arts, yet never found one that hit all the spots. Whether you’re looking into practicing karate for either self defense, fitness, camaraderie or personal growth, you will find it here. The classes are led and taught by highly trained and motivated Black Belts who never pit ego against ego and in each class, strive to develop the best in each person regardless of their belt color. In addition as opposed to other schools their are no hidden fees or contracts to sign.

A good place for those looking to learn an ancient karate style in the ancient way -- through kata. The atmosphere is supportive and non-competitive, allowing each student to progress at his/her own pace. Since there is no sparring, injuries are kept to a minimum, making this a relatively safe martial art to practice.

I've been training here since 2012 because they offer traditional karate classes and an extremely supportive community. There's a genuine commitment to both perfecting physical techniques and developing confidence, poise, and inner calm in any kind of stressful situation. I chose this dojo because I always feel physically and mentally better after a class than I did going in, and it's a great way to stay in shape while constantly learning new things.

Regardless of whether you are looking for an amazing martial art, want to lose a few pounds, or are simply tired of grinding it out at the gym with the same boring routine, look no further because Midtown Karate Dojo is the REAL DEAL.
No big egos here - But you will find pure and traditional karate taught in a supportive and welcoming environment. Class schedules are flexible with small classes taught seven days a week. And, since the cost is way lower than a gym, it's almost like getting a personal trainer for free. I've found that Karate is a great way to engage your body, mind and spirit. My

This is one of, if not the best Karate School in NYC. My kids grew up here. I have been training with them here for over 10 years under the watchful eyes of some of the most dedicated and high-spirited Black Belts anywhere. If you are looking to get fit, learn self-defense and the authentic and undiluted art of karate in its original form, in a serious, respectable and safe environment, this is the school for you.
