Mobile, Alabama is one of the oldest cities on the Gulf Coast. Founded as the capital of colonial French Louisiana in 1702, Mobile remained a part of New France well into the mid-1700s. Mobile finally joined Alabama in 1819, when the historic territory gained statehood.
