Southtowns Animal Hospital
The founder of Southtowns Animal Hospital was Dr. L.W. Lindsey. An article commemorating its founding was published in the Hamburg Sun on 06/20/1946. Dr. Lindsay practiced out of a house that stood in front of where the current Souththowns Animal Hospital is located. The practice was founded on personal one on one attention.

In the 1970's, Dr. Lindsay retired and sold the practice to Dr. Robert Hirt, who built the first version of the current building while practicing out of the same house in front. Dr. Hirt published a book, "Reflections: The Stories and Life of a Country Vet." In 1995, upon his retirement, the practice was purchased by Dr. Theodore Winkle (The Ohio State University) who became just the third owner in 50 years.
Services
New Patients
Report
Every visit with our Veterinarians includes a full physical exam from nose to tail. We check eyes and ears, heart and lungs, musculature and range of motion. The doctor will perform a complete oral exam, discuss preventive dental care and grade your pets overall dental health. When coming in for your first visit, please bring any records you have along with any other information regarding your pet.
Payment Policy
Report
Payments are due at the time of service. Unlike human hospitals, we do not receive income from grants, fund drives, or government programs like Medicaid or Medicare. In order to keep operating costs as low as possible and given that the hospital does not receive any funding outside that of the fees we collect for our services, Southtowns Animal Hospital is not able to extend credit.
What People Say
Report
Recently my beloved Barley came down with vertigo making him unable to stand without help. As he weighed almost 100lbs, he was in need of nursing care. Dr. Jacobi and her dedicated staff made his more than 3 week stay more like a spa visit than a hospital one. I felt secure in the unparalleled care shown to my sweet boy.
Wellness Care
Report
The road to a happy and long life for any pet begins with wellness and preventive care. The veterinarians and staff are here to help you provide the best health care for your pet through every age and stage of development.

Animals grow and age at a much different rate than humans, so a pet's yearly or biannual wellness visit allows our team of veterinarians to identify any potential problems or illness at an early stage, when they are most treatable. We care for animals of all ages, from puppies and kittens to geriatric adults.
Surgical Care
Report
All of the veterinarians at Southtowns Animal Hospital perform both routine and more complex surgical procedures. We do perform emergency surgeries as well as schedule routine surgery. We strive to treat all of our surgical patients with the greatest of care, and ensure that they are as safe as possible by performing pre-anesthetic blood testing, and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
