I appreciate the time you are taking to explore and decide on the person who will work best with you. As a Monmouth County divorce attorney and mediator, I focus on family law matters in Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey. Family law matters include the negotiation and mediation of issues relating to divorce and separation, custody and child support, asset and property distribution, and premarital agreements.

I also offer services for real estate transactions (purchases, sales and refinances) and estate planning documents (wills, powers of attorney and advanced medical directives). Dealing with any these is stressful especially separation and divorce and more so when children are involved.

Divorce
Report
Ask someone to describe their divorce and you will hear: awful, painful, expensive, too long, embarrassing and many more of the same negative terms. While never easy, divorce can be better depending on the process you choose. There is an old expression. If you look at every problem as if it were a nail, you only need a hammer.
Mediation
Report
Mediation is very simply discussions facilitated by a trained professional to draw out the concerns of both parties who are facing a divorce or separation. In mediation, you begin at the very first meeting to determine the information you need to reach an agreement. You obtain exchange and review the information necessary to resolve your financial issues in a private setting.
Legal Separation vs Divorce
Report
For many people the decision to separate generally smolders for a long time. Change is hard. You are fearful of the unknown. Impetuous actions can lead to discomfort or regrets. Thoughtful planning can eliminate or minimize the unexpected results. Seeking out an unbiased third party to discuss as many outcomes as possible may be your first best step.
Negotiated Settlement
Report
There may be times when a couple decides they will hire attorneys who will speak for them and guide them during the preparation of a written marital settlement agreement. One or both may have decided that mediation or a collaborative divorce process was not the path to choose. They may call this a cooperative process.
