First our name. We opened our first dry cleaning operation 35 years ago in the legendary 100-year-old Apthorp Building, one of the few surviving full-block apartment buildings in New York City. It's on the block formed by Broadway, West End, 78th and 79th streets. Our owners, Debra and Joel Kravet, had been married for a few years when they decided on a top quality dry cleaning business.
It seemed a natural for their backgrounds, Joel's in textiles and Debra's in design. They took every available professional training course as they worked to grow Apthorp Cleaners & Tailors to a multi-million dollar business. For the first 15 years, the "plant" was on site. Then, in order to offer more upscale services to a growing clientele, the plant moved the plant to a larger space in Harlem.

All prices listed are "Base Prices" fabric types, colors, beading, crystals, trims and other factors determine processes and precautions required and final prices. The cleaning processes we select are dictated by the needs and nature of the item in question. We are fully equipped to use a full spectrum of cleaning methods, traditional Dry Cleaning, Organic Cleaning, Wet Cleaning and Hand Cleaning.

We pick up your clothes directly from you or your doorman or your office, in some cases. Then we deliver them back to you perfectly. Each garment is checked several times, encased in bagging and stuffed with tissue paper and delivered in the way you have requested it. One client recently said, he feels like he has a personal "concierge" as the delivery person is dressed right, is respectful and always on time.
In-Home Alterations

So our tailors and seamstresses will make an appointment to come to your home and look at your favorite dress, slacks, blazer and tell you how you can make them look like they just walked out of Bergdorf's or Barney's today. Your clothing needs to fit you perfectly if you are going to feel your best.
Draperies

One client sends her "all white" living room pieces twice a year to Apthorp, and sometimes more often (when magazines are photographing her apartment). We take everything down, carefully pack it, clean it, and bring it back and re-install it to their original places. It is really like moving into a fresh new apartment.
Clean, Ship & Go
Report
Our Clean, Ship and Go service let's them say good bye to the hassles of travelling with baggage and hello to whizzing through the airport unencumbered. You simply send your travel wardrobe into us for cleaning. We'll clean, press and pack it for you in either our special quality garment valet box or your own luggage.
