Payne Street Pottery is a working studio and gallery located in the Crescent Hill/Clifton Heights neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Get your hands dirty in one of our instructor led classes, workshops, or private parties and those with previous experience can rent monthly studio space for unlimited access.

Owner Tonya Johnson came to Louisville from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky in 1991 to attend the University of Louisville. While completing her undergraduate degree in biology, Tonya enrolled in a ceramics class with Ginny Marsh, fulfilling a lifelong fascination in clay. This class ignited her passion for pottery and changed the course of her life.

When you sign up for an evening pottery class session (6-8 pm), we meet for 2 hours, once a week, for 6 weeks and when you sign up for a morning pottery class session (9:30 am till noon), we meet for 2.5 hours, once a week, for 5 weeks. In these classes you learn every step of the creating, decorating & finishing process and glaze your own pottery pieces.
