Questions
What makes a pediatric dentist different from a family dentist?
Pediatric dentists complete two additional years of specialized training focused exclusively on children's oral health, including behavior management, growth development, and special needs care.
Can parents stay with their children during dental treatments?
Parents are welcome to accompany children initially, though we encourage independent visits to build patient confidence. We'll immediately involve parents if any treatment concerns arise during appointments.
How can I prepare my child for their first dental visit?
Read age-appropriate dental books, maintain positive conversations about dentistry, and consider scheduling a pre-appointment office tour to familiarize children with our welcoming environment and friendly team.
Do you treat children with special healthcare needs?
Yes, our board-certified team has specialized training and experience providing comprehensive dental care for children with physical, developmental, and sensory challenges through personalized treatment plans.
What sedation options are available for pediatric patients?
We offer nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and in-office IV sedation with a pediatric anesthesiologist, as well as general anesthesia options at Dell Children's Hospital for complex cases.
How often should children visit the dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends bi-annual checkups starting around age one or when the first tooth erupts to monitor development and prevent dental issues.

Dr. Sherwood treated my daughter for years, from about age 3 or 4 to quite recently for a cleaning (she is now 15). Things were fine until we sought a second opinion after he offered an expensive treatment plan. The second dentist reviewed x-rays sent from Dr. Sherwood's office and examined our daughter. He suggested we watch and wait for a year. In addition, my stepdaughter and her husband, both dentists, also looked at the x-rays and agreed with the watch and wait advice. We were in watch and wait mode when my daughter went in to Dr. Sherwood for her regular cleaning recently. Dr. Sherwood

My son broke his front tooth while on vacation with his grandparents. I called and was able to get an appointment for the next day. Dr. Sherwood and his team were amazing at working with me from across the country to get everything taken care of! Everyone we encountered from the office was extremely friendly and empathetic. The work done to restore his front tooth was immaculate! Highly recommend!

Everything at Sherwood Pediatric Dentistry is "top notch". The administrative team sets the bar high for all other medical administrative staff that I encounter - none comes close to their efficiency, kindness, calmness, and organization. Dr. Sherwood and his medical staff create an atmosphere of care, capability, kindness, security and no shame. We found them because of complex dental issues with my then 4 yr old who had sensory issues. There we no problems or issues with any of the procedures needed. My children love going to the dentist at least twice a year. I cannot recommend this practice

My kids love going to the dentist! Dr. Sherwood takes his time to explain my children's medical conditions, give advice on how to maintain long-term good dental care, and is very patient with a wiggly child. Highly recommend bringing your children here. Felt very safe during COVID with everyone wearing masks, HEPA filters and social distancing of patients.
