Services
Glass
Report
In a frame, glass is your shield against the elements. It stands in the way of the environment, dust, dirt, insects, and your little Picassos. For years, the framing industry concentrated on the production of PH neutral (acid free) materials for use in archival framing. Meanwhile, much damage was done to artwork by exposure to UV rays in light.
Glass Choices
Report
FrameMakers offers all types of glass available on the market today. Please feel free to ask our experts which glass type is most suitable for your work and environment. Acrylic does not condensate (like glass) and can therefore be placed directly on the artwork. However, it scratches easily and requires a special cleaner to prevent it from becoming cloudy.
Mat Types, Styles and Tools
Report
FrameMakers carries all mat qualities up to and including museum conservation materials, known as a rag-mats. Acid-free paper mats meet conservation standards and are typically the second choice for conservation. Regular mats are the inexpensive option and the bevel will discolour to a newspaper-like (gold/brownish) colour over time.
Canvas Stretching and Framing
Report
Canvases can be stretched on a variety wood stretcher thicknesses. The depth of the stretcher frame you choose depends on the effect you want to create and the size of the artwork. We can then frame the piece in either a float frame (showing the whole canvas) or in a regular cap frame which overlaps approximately 1/8 of the canvas.
Mounting / Facemounting
Report
We use only the most up to date mounting processes from reversible and irreversible techniques. Irreversible techniques are wet mounting, dry mounting and PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive film). In conservation/archival framing the process must be reversible using either archival pockets or archival hinges and rice starch/paste.
