MANE's special equine partners go through a rigorous evaluation process before being accepted into the program. All horses must complete a three-month trial period during which MANE's staff evaluate their disposition, manner, movement, and intelligence. MANE focuses on choosing horses whose instinct is to think instead of flee, work positively with a variety of handlers, and have gaits that are suitable for many different riders.
Meet the Herd
Report
Baba is like an oreo cookie - black and white, round, and sweet. He had a successful career as a show pony in the hunter ring before his life began at MANE. He enjoys teaching some of the youngest riders at MANE. His long, smooth stride is a huge confidence booster! Baba's kind heart is not easily forgotten, even by riders who have long outgrown his size.
Ride With MANE
Report
Riders at MANE vary widely in their ages from 4 to 80! Each student is treated individually. Realistic goals and expectations are set and the horses are carefully matched to the rider's ability, temperament, and size. From the start, riders at MANE are encouraged to be as resourceful and independent as possible.
Therapeutic Riding
Report
Riding a horse moves the rider's body in a manner that mimics the human gait, which facilitates improvement in flexibility, balance, and muscle strength and coordination.
However, the benefits of equine assisted activities and therapies extend beyond just the physical; riders often demonstrate improvement in areas such as decision-making, social and body awareness, communication, team building, cognitive functioning, memory, confidence, patience, and self-esteem.
