Michigan Wine
A wine kit shows up on your birthday and challenges you to figure it out. It goes unopened for six months. Too intimidating to know where to start. Eventually you dive in and find it contains just the right mix of science and artistic expression. After years of research we planted our first grapes on the family property in Freesoil, where Mr. K grew up.

Not the fertile, southern facing slope you read about, but the acre-in-the-woods that was cleared of Jack Pines a couple decades earlier. Among a half-dozen apple trees his father planted in the sand years before. The Fennville vineyard was planted in 2017. With the help of friends and family we did almost three acres in a weekend.

Report
The French-American hybrid child of Gerwurtraminer. The same unique peppery character with better disease resistance and low winter temperature tolerance. One of our favorite grapes. Blends well or stands out solo. The most widely planted variety in our Freesoil vineyard. A French-American hybrid developed specifically for winemaking at Cornell University.
