The last point is key! Skin cancer can be treated safely and quickly with early detection. That is why yearly skin checks are critical. Even every 6 months if you spend a lot of time in the sun or notice any unusual moles or spots on your skin or have a history of skin cancer.
Also, protecting yourself from the sun is the first line of defense: sunscreen (broad spectrum and SPF 30 or higher), reapplying sunscreen at least every 2 hours when outside, hats, long clothing to cover the skin (when possible).These are all things you can do to minimize sun exposure and your risk of developing skin cancer.

Actinic Keratosis

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cancer in humans. People with a history of multiple sunburns and those living in sunny climates, such as Mission Viejo in Orange County, have a higher risk of developing basal cell carcinoma than those living in other areas.
