Tallgrass Estate Planning
Lawyers aren't always good teachers. They either assume people know what they're talking about or take pride in the fact that they don't. People don't often associate seeing a lawyer with warmth, generosity, welcome, and empathy. But we believe those things are important parts of our Estate planning process.

Laurel and Riley Carbone Kern founded Tallgrass Estate Planning, LLP in 2016 in their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their goal was to create a different kind of law firm - one that reaches out to people who are routinely overlooked by traditional law firms or people who are hesitant to work with traditional firms.

Revocable Trusts
Report
A revocable living trust is a tool to avoid probate, guardianship, and even protect assets for spouses and children after you're gone. In many ways, a revocable living trust is the best estate planning tool available.

If you wish to avoid court-controlled process, like guardianship and probate, during a crisis, and you wish to ensure your assets are protected from your beneficiaries' financial bad luck or bad choices, then there is no better tool than a revocable living trust.
Special Needs Planning
Report
Loved ones with special needs require special planning. If you have a spouse, child, grandchild, or other intended beneficiary with a physical, mental, or developmental disability, then you need to take steps to ensure they do not lose their benefits after you're done. It is not uncommon for people to lose their SSI, Medicaid, or other benefits when inheriting life insurance, real estate, or any number of other assets.
Probate & EstateAdministration
Report
When someone dies still owning property that is not subject to a will or beneficiary designation, there is important work to be done. It is in the interest of the State of Oklahoma and your family to determine who is entitled to own your assets following your death. If you die with a will, the process to determine how your assets are transferred is called Probate.
Last Will & Testament
Report
Perhaps the most common estate planning tool is a Last Will & Testament. While a will does not do everything people assume it does, it is still useful in many circumstances. Younger clients with few resources and limited means can benefit from a will. Under Oklahoma law, and many other states, a will requires a probate, but it is still usually better than dying "intestate" (without a plan).
