The educational approach we use was pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician who, through careful observation and extensive research, concluded that every young child possesses a naturally curious and absorbent mind. Allowing young students some latitude in exploring subjects of interest to them resulted in a far greater motivation for learning, Dr. Montessori discovered.
We are a school that combines highly-respected Montessori teaching methods with other proven education practices to develop 21st-century skills, the core elements of knowledge, and the richest learning experience possible for children ages 3 to 11. Choosing Wichita Montessori School has been one of the best decisions and undoubtedly the best investment in our daughter's future.

About Us
Report
We are the families, children, teachers, and staff of the Wichita Montessori School. And though we've been an integral part of this community's educational landscape for more than a quarter century, we're often reminded that not everyone who might benefit from joining us has a clear picture of what goes on here.
History of Wichita Montessori
Report
Incorporated in 1985, Wichita Montessori School was a dream come to life, initiated by committed parents. Engaging Karen Combs to lead the new school, WMS was invited by Willard and Jean Garvey to share space on the campus of The Independent School. After a few years of teaching students in large closets and any other available space, WMS was given a beautiful home of our own on the campus, where we have been located since the early 1990's.
Getting Here
Report
Located on east Douglas Avenue, between Rock and Webb Roads, on the campus of the Independent School, Wichita Montessori School is easy to find. Enter the campus at the east end of the parking lot, and make an immediate right-hand turn, down the hill. We are in the building just east of the one with the school bell (a courtyard separates us), and you'll see our sign.
Faculty
Report
I wasn't born to just teach. I was born to inspire others to shine their light, and to never give up; even when faced with challenges that seem impossible. I believe that children who understand and demonstrate consistency and respect in the classroom are better equipped to learn and to feel successful.
Admissions
Report
A distinguishing feature of the Montessori educational system is its appropriateness for most children. For entrance into our primary program, young children who are curious, engaged, respectful, and kind to others, and who respond to adult direction are good candidates.
Older students will feel right at home if they possess the same attributes, along with high academic motivation, the drive to tackle new challenges, as well as the ability to work both independently and with adult support.Unlike programs that attempt to match the child and an inflexible learning environment, Wichita Montessori School encourages and enables each child to discover a way of learning that works best.
