AN is the abbreviation used for Air Force- Navy Aeronautical Standards. Many of these drawings are in the process of being changed over to the custody of the National Aerospace Standards Committee (NASM) with specifications maintained by the Aerospace Industries Association of America. They are still purchased however, to the AN part numbers.
