A hydraulic pump is a mechanical device that converts mechanical power into hydraulic energy. Hydraulic pumps work through displacement - which is the amount of liquid transferred from a pump's inlet to its outlet in one revolution or cycle. During operation, it performs two functions. Mechanical action creates a vacuum at the pump inlet which allows atmospheric pressure to force liquid from the reservoir into the inlet line to the pump.
