History
Report
WINC was initially located at 516 E. North Street near downtown Waukesha. This first location was provided by former Board member and wildlife rehabilitator Joyce Salzmann. The tiny one-bedroom house was used for the first two years as Nancy's office and as a wildlife hospital. Nancy Frank and Nan Calvert were the first staff members.
About
Report
The Wildlife In Need Center is dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education. WINC rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife and releases healthy animals back into their natural habitat. WINC also delivers educational programming to area elementary schools and to residents of all ages including scout groups, civic groups and senior citizens.
Transporting an Animal
Report
Please DO NOT FEED or OFFER WATER to the animal. It can aspirate or choke on what it is offered. Infant mammals require very specific food that needs to be fed using the correct technique. If the animal is too cold, stressed, or injured feeding it can jeopardize the animal's survival or even cause death.
Wildlife Release Program
Report
The Wildlife in Need Center's mission is to rehabilitate and release wildlife back into their natural environment and to provide quality education programs. Since inception, over 63,791 animals representing more than 140 species have been brought to WINC for care or medical attention. Each species requires a slightly different habitat in the wild to survive and a place to call home.
