Incorporated in1978 as the Urban Cultural Arts Foundation, the William H. Thomas Art Gallery a well-known community based gallery dedicated to bringing the arts into the center of urban Columbus for over 33 years. The gallery has hosted a variety of artists from the local community, throughout the nation as well as from Africa, Europe and Asia and has received numerous awards and recognitions.

Each year, the gallery hosts WORKSHOPs for children, teens, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds, THINK TANKs, PRODUCTIONS and the annual AFRICAN VILLAGE ARTS FESTIVAL held since 2007. It also presents up to four EXHIBITS that run for ten weeks and are launched with an opening reception on the third Sunday of the named month from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Urban Cultural Arts Foundation (UCAF) presents this ten-week exhibition and invited Benjamin Crumpler, native of Columbus and nationally as well as internationally well-known multiple-mixed media artist who persuades with his the great variety of paintings, sculptures, collages, graphic-, surface- and, furniture design, murals, plaster, and bas reliefs.

Learn from some of the most experienced and talented artists from around the world, as well as just down the street.
Elder Artists in the Hood

We have chosen ten elder artists of our hood/ our village to highlight and honor them in a booklet and on banners: Barbara Chavous, Bintu Olaniyi, Michele Hoff West, Queen Brooks, Ed Colston, Grandpa Smoky Brown, Larry Winston Collins, Omar Shaheed, Pheoris West, and Richard Duarte Brown. Now the banners are on display at the Metropolitan Library on Grant St in Columbus.
The African Village Arts Festival

This year's Festival is a Salute to Babalu in Yoruba traditions - two days of unique fun-filled and family-friendly events. Artist Studio offering visual art demonstrations and hands-on craft making workshops for all age groups. Visitors at the festival can also participate in creating a community mural painting (led by Queen Brooks) that will be displayed publicly later at the William H. Thomas Art Gallery's sculpture garden.

We hold THINK TANKs with a wide range of topics at the William H. Thomas Art Gallery periodically throughout the year seeking to process our understanding of creative concepts as well as the mind, body, and soul. Current and relevant topics are chosen for open community discussion led by experts in a given field.
