ChildSavers is the only nonprofit in Virginia using a coordinated prevention and intervention model to prepare children for lifelong learning, address mental health, and recover from trauma. Nearly 100 years ago, ChildSavers was established as the Children's Memorial Clinic in memory of Dr. McGuire Newton, one of Richmond's first pediatricians.

Our children's mental health services team provides child play therapy, family therapy, and psychiatric services for kids in greater Richmond. Connect with a trusted child therapist today through our Outpatient, School-Based, Virtual, and Immediate Response therapy options! Our team of child development experts provides free or low-cost training, technical assistance, and resources for child care providers to deliver quality care. We can support you with a broad range of training and professional development opportunities that include credentialing, mentoring, and nutrition education.
Trauma and Resilience Training

ChildSavers offers a multitude of trauma training opportunities for organizations, businesses, and community leaders. Our Director of Mental Health and Lead Trauma and Resilience Educator, John Richardson-Lauve, LCSW, is available to train in Richmond or around the US.
Since the start of our training efforts in trauma-informed care in 2015, over 25,000 people have participated in our workshops and training events, and we have trained over 450 trainers in the curriculum.We offer workshops on the basics of trauma-informed care and resiliency-based practices (our Surviving and Thriving: Trauma and Resilience Basics) and a train-the-trainer curriculum to empower individuals and organizations to educate others.
