Macular Degeneration
Report
Macular degeneration is a condition in which the layer of pigmented cells that supports the macula, the nerve found at the center of the retina that gives us our 20/20 vision, begins to show signs of wear and tear. With time small deposits begin to develop under the macula that not only decrease one's vision but may allow blood vessels that normally reside behind the layer of pigmented cells to protrude through and become leaking.
Glaucoma
Report
Because many different types of glaucoma exist, treatment depends upon the type of glaucoma present as well as a variety of other factors. In many patients, the disease is not noticed in the early stages, because there is no pain and no noticeable change in vision. Early detection by an eye doctor is the key to the prevention of vision damage from glaucoma.
Flashes and Floaters
Report
As we grow older, it is more common to experience flashes when rising to your feet after a long night's sleep due to changes in blood pressure rather than a posterior vitreous detachment. Another type of flash is that which is associated with migraines. It appears as jagged lines or "heat waves" in both eyes forming a semicircle arc in the peripheral vision, typically up and out, often lasting 10-20 minutes.
