Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan serves the citizens of Michigan with quality professional legal and advocacy services by removing barriers that prevent individuals from reaching their fullest potential.

Governed by various board members, and employees in various industries including legal, government and human services, NLSM is comprised of two core service groups, which include: Outreach, Housing and Human Services, and Advocacy and Educational Groups.Our goal at NLSM is to work on the ground, in the the community, to help our clients overcome serious life issues, while achieving stability and opportunity.

Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan (NLSM) offers one-of-a-kind services to promote health safety and self-sufficiency. We are a regional business and non-profit collaborative coordinating Southeastern Michigan community outreach and pro-bono partnerships for advocacy, education, and resources of human survival.
Programs

Since 1966, NLSM has had a successful history of working with those who could not afford legal services and over 20 years working with those who are homeless and/or at risk of homelessness.

Additionally, we provide financial assistance, housing relocation and stabilization services to those who are determined to be literally homeless or victims of violence with Rapid Rehousing funding from the City of Detroit or U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Housing

Rapid re-housing provides short-term rental assistance and services. The goals are to help people obtain housing quickly, increase self-sufficiency, and stay housed. It is offered without preconditions (such as employment, income, absence of criminal record, or sobriety) and the resources and services provided are typically tailored to the needs of the individual or family household.
Children’s Education Division CED

The Children's Education Division (CED) was established in 1982 and was designed to provide age appropriate career/college readiness programs to youth from elementary through high school. Over the years the center has gained unique insight to the plight of youth and has built a firm foundation through education and interactive activities.
Elder Law & Advocacy Center
Report
The Elder Law & Advocacy Center (ELAC) has been operating in Wayne County for over 25 years. It was organized to provide unique educational opportunities and legal services for older adults and their caregivers. Since its founding ELAC has assisted thousands of clients and caregivers each year. Through grant funding, ELAC provides civil legal services to individuals 60 years of age and older who reside in Wayne County.
