Our mission is to provide our artists and our community with a permanent, high quality retail outlet and gallery space in the egalitarian form of a cooperative. Arcata Artisans is an exciting cooperative endeavor of accomplished Humboldt County artists. We use a variety of styles and media to present exquisitely appointed artwork to the public.

In our fine art and craft gallery and gift shop, you will find a wide selection of representational and abstract paintings, prints, jewelry, photographs, ceramics, weaving, and sculpture for the home and garden.

We are looking for dedicated, established artists who would like to become members of our cooperative gallery/store in Arcata. Various media are important to reflect the wonderful range of art available in Humboldt County and to give customers a wide variety of work to choose from. To qualify, you must be a serious artist, produce high-quality work on a regular basis and live and work in Humboldt County.
My work is heavily influenced from time spent growing up on the beaches and bluffs of the Mendocino Coast. My family surfed and dove for abalone, and our home sat on the edge of Jackson State Forest. Time spent in the trees and on the sand taught me to see a spiritual quality in the way light filters through the redwoods and reflects off the great pacific kelp beds.
I especially enjoy making original sculptural objects which are also functional. The act of creating fine art which actually DOES something gives me a thrill. I am most drawn to metals for their durability and versatility. I like to make things that will last, and I relish in using the metalsmithing techniques which have been passed by touch from teacher to apprentice for thousands of years.
Working with clay is my second career. But calling it a job is hardly accurate because every day at the studio is a privilege. A ball of clay is like a new pencil and paper except you are sketching in three dimensions. Clay is a great material because it lets you elaborate, embellish and change your mind as you go along.
Elaine's porcelain pieces are inspired by the beauty of our natural environment here in Humboldt County. Elaine Y Shore has been creating unique, functional porcelain since moving to Humboldt in 2009. She is a member of Arcata Artisans Cooperative, Trinidad Art Gallery and Fire Arts Center, where she teaches classes in surface decoration techniques.
