When Deborah Carpenter joined two partners to acquire the assets of a bankrupt spring and U-bolt manufacturing shop in 1982, she didnit know the first thing about the automotive aftermarket. 17 years later, Carpenter is the sole owner of Custom Springs, Inc., and has become known to her customers and competitors as "The Spring Lady", a reputation and nickname she carries with great pleasure.
