I would also like to invite Kat Stevens, who re-trained and found a job here when she needed it most. We have seven children from college to elementary school. No income, no insurance It was a lot. I went to the job fair and met several people from Cameron LNG and decided at that point I needed to come back to college.
So, I went to SOWELA Community College here in Lake Charles. And with the support of my family, my parents especially and my husband, graduated ahead of time. Got to do my internship out here and just absolutely fell in love with everybody out here. The culture, the people, everything they stand for.

SOWELA Technical Community College has been educating the region's workforce since 1940 when it first opened its doors to students. The college was created by an act of the Louisiana State Legislature in 1938 and has been known by several different names since it was established. By the 1990s, SOWELA was among the largest and most progressive post-secondary technical colleges in the state of Louisiana.

Since 1938, SOWELA has served the people of Southwest Louisiana with higher education and training opportunities. Originally, the College was established to prepare individuals for a specific vocation through technical training.
Today, however, SOWELA is a comprehensive technical community college that offers students a holistic higher education experience from professionally trained professors through state-of-the-art facilities and numerous student-led organizations and internship opportunities.
