We use urban logs normally overlooked by the lumber/wood industry. These logs are milled into slabs at our West Oakland facility, dried, surfaced, and made available for sale to the general public and wood working professionals of all kinds. We are a full service sawmill offering milling, planing, sanding, as well as finishing. We also fabricate legs and related accessories out of metal, and provide fine carpentry from our sister company Joinery Structures.

The vast majority of the wood we carry is sourced from local trees in the Bay Area. The categories below represent some of the more common species we carry. However, we often carry rare and unusual species, mostly what we come across in our tree service operations. Also on rare occasions colleagues bring us wood to resell on consignment, and these species often vary considerably.

In addition to selling wood slabs to the general public, customers often look to Ponderosa Millworks to provide a variety of finishing services. Some of our services include planing, sanding, filling, inlays, and coating with a wide range of surface treatments. We generally quote the approximate time it will take for the requested work during the initial visit, along with a timetable for completion.

Pricing

Wood is sold by the "board foot, " which should not be confused by "lineal foot" or "square foot." One board feet measures 1 x 12 x 12 inches. Prices for our lumber typically vary from $8 to $20 a board foot depending on the species and quality. Some individual slabs can exceed this range based on special characteristics.
