Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program is a non-profit 501(c)3 equine facilitated therapy program for the benefit of people who happen to have disabilities. Our mission is to provide Equine Facilitated Therapy for the Mind, Body and Soul. Since 1982 therapy has been available to anyone with a physical, mental and or emotional challenge.

As a non-profit organization, Freedom Hills exists through the efforts of volunteers, donations, fundraisers and sponsors. Our program is a Premier Center with PATH, a Maryland Horse Discovery Center and a Maryland Certified Program for Farm Based Education. Executive Director, Renee Dixon, has been offering quality riding lessons and sharing her knowledge and love for horses to children and adults since 1982.

New Participants
Report
There are no age requirements for participants. We have seen individuals that are 18 months old, carefully held by their parents or a volunteer, seeking up the warmth and movement from being on the back of the horse. Our oldest client was 95 years of age; he was one of our military veterans. The program is directed to the needs and abilities of the individual, not their age.
Veterans Program
Report
Working with horses can provide veterans with life-changing insight and help with managing emotions, Horses can teach presence, honesty, and cooperation and help veterans unwind and renew their emotional and mental energy. The partnership of horse and rider can offer a whole new aspect of life. Riding takes self-control, balance, and motivation.
Finding the Champion Within
Report
As parents, all you really want for your children is for them to be happy. By the time our son Stephen was nine months old, we discovered he had developmental delays. Over time he was diagnosed with high-functioning autism and an intellectual disability. There was no "how to" book we could source to navigate this new journey.
