APL Federal Credit Union

The group, consisting of employees at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL), formed the credit union to serve the financial needs of the Applied Physics Lab's workforce. From those humble beginnings, the credit union grew slowly but steadily for the next 47 years, serving as the primary financial institution for the vast majority of JHU/APL employees and their families.

As Howard County's Community Credit Union, APL FCU is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school or regularly conducts business in the county. Family members of an APL FCU member are also eligible to join, even if they don't live or work in Howard County. APL Federal Credit Union has been named Best Bank/Credit Union in Howard Magazine's "Best of Howard County" poll for 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021!

One of the key initiatives for the Credit Union this year is Staff Development. The importance of this initiative requires that we commit time and resources to foster continued development of our individual employees. Each Wednesday from 8/4 onward, our lobbies and drive-thru lanes will open at 9:30 am.

Your Checking Account at APL FCU is one of your most valuable financial tools, and it is free. If you are not currently a member, please join the credit union. NOTICE: Due to a significant increase in USPS delivery times, check orders may take longer than usual to arrive. APL FCU offers various styles of checks and check accessories.

Our membership includes a Savings Account and a free Checking Account with a free Visa Debit Card. A savings balance of at least $50 is all that is required to maintain your membership, to earn dividends and to provide you with access to our menu of products and services. Teach your kids under 15 years of age that saving can be fun with an APL FCU Kids Account.
