School One is a progressive, private high school in Rhode Island where students from many different backgrounds come together in a supportive community. Since 1973, School One students have pursued meaningful questions through interdisciplinary coursework and sophisticated arts instruction. Our graduates go on to top-ranked colleges, art schools, and most importantly, go on to lead lives of caring and compassion.
School One is a rare blend of rigorous, non-competitive, and supportive. Our small classes are similar to college seminars - filled with student voices, debate, and meaningful questions about the world. School One's flexible environment is well suited to accommodate International students and students with mild to moderate special education needs.

Who We Are
Report
School One was built for one purpose: to offer students a high school, centered on their individuality and creativity, which challenges them to tackle the questions that matter most. We're passionate. We're caring. And we've spent five decades helping students make their own choices, find their footing, and thrive.
Our History
Report
In 1973, a small group of committed parents and teachers pioneered the move toward student-centered private high schools in Rhode Island. They launched School One in a former bowling alley on Pine Street. Today, School One is an accredited independent school on Providence's east side, offering a rigorous college prep experience with an unwavering commitment to student voice, creativity and community.

A recent graduate from the University of Rhode Island, Emma teaches dance and assists with inter-generational theater at School One. Emma's experience in dance spans multiple disciplines including ballet, modern, tap, and jazz. She believes that movement is a powerful form of expression and you don't need to do the steps perfectly to find your love for dance.

How We Teach
Report
At School One it is our job to reach every student. We designed our school on a personalized approach to learning four decades ago, and we've seen other private high schools follow our lead. Our teachers teach to the students, not to the test. They understand different learning styles and have worked with students needing a range of supports for learning differences.
