Salina Kennel Club

The Salina Kennel Club (SKC) was established in 1956 and is a member club of the American Kennel Club. We are an organization run entirely by volunteers, to serve as an information resource for members and the general population. While conducting AKC approved Dog Shows, sanctioned matches and training classes.

The Salina Kennel Club holds three sessions of puppy and basic obedience classes. Winter sessions begin in January. Summer sessions begin in June. Fall sessions begin in September. All classes are taught by volunteers who love dogs! Enrollment for classes will occur on the Sunday before the start of courses, & will be taken until all available slots are filled.

This class is for puppies from 8 weeks to about 4-5 months old, at the start of the class session. Puppies will begin learning basic obedience skills and household manners which will include: housebreaking, socialization, sit, down, come, and walking on lead. We also include some grooming, toenail trimming, and discuss appropriate chew toys and many other subjects for the new puppy and their owner.

This is a two-part program that focuses on responsible pet ownership for owners and basic manners for dogs. This course will prepare teams for the CGC (Canine Good Citizen), CGCA (Community Canine), and Therapy Dog International evaluations. All dogs that pass the CGC evaluation are eligible to receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club, for AKC registered dogs CGC is now a title.

This class is for dogs who have taken the C.G.C. Adult Obedience class, and passed the C.G.C. test. If you did not take the C.G.C. Adult Obedience Class with the Salina Kennel Club, or have not passed the C.G.C. test, you must demonstrate the skills required of the C.G.C. test to the instructor, as a prerequisite before acceptance into the class.
