In 1979, armed with nothing more than a sewing machine and her talent for creating elegant window treatments, Maria Makkas established Makkas Drapery Workroom, her beloved family business. As the years passed and her clientele grew, so too did requests for more complicated projects, a shift which heralded the beginning of a professional collaboration with her husband, Phil Makkas.
