Here is a recent video of my current band. The video features my star guitar student, Riley "Roo" Magray, playing "Sad But True", by Metallica, with my band. He's only fourteen, and he makes it look easy! Roo learned something new here - you have to turn your guitar's volume knob OFF when you're not playing, or it will squeal!

LOLOL! Can YOUR guitar teacher do that? I began giving guitar lessons in 1980. In my guitar lessons, I have always stressed that music is a language, and I believe the best way to begin is to learn the basics via familiar songs that are easy to play.

Report
Kind words from former student, and kung fu master of guitar and songcraft, Scott Adair - " When I was 15 I saw George Elbel play Van Halen's "Eruption" perfectly, note-for-note, and I thought to myself, "I need to learn from that guy."

I started taking lessons from George soon after that, and was happy to discover that, not only was he great at teaching you how to play specific, difficult songs, he always tried to inject some music theory into the mix.So even when we would be learning a Randy Rhodes or Alex Lifeson guitar solo, he would connect it back to something theory-related he had covered before, and always with excitement.
