We offer one and two week long workshops every summer, devoted to throwing on the potters wheel as well as hand-building and shorter, long weekend, special topic classes. Our small classes allow for the program design to be customized to fit the needs of each individual student. The Tuscarora Retreat and Summer Pottery School was established in the summer of 1966 by Dennis and Julie Parks.
They chose this place because of its quiet, vast open spaces, clean air, clear skies and rugged mountains. Our aim is to provide a concentrated supportive atmosphere for both those seeking an introduction to ceramics as well as more seasoned practitioners wanting to expand their skills and confidence.

Topics covered vary depending on the individuals enrolled in the workshop but can include the basics of getting started on the wheel--centering, learning to throw functional forms as well as more advanced topics like altering thrown pots, learning to throw larger pots, developing your own glazes using natural materials in your environment, and so forth.

The cost of the sessions includes room and board. Participants are housed in a rustic 19th-century rooming house, affectionately called "The Hotel". Tuition also includes 3 meals daily. Students prepare their own breakfasts (food provided), while lunch and dinner are prepared for them. We offer a wide variety of meals, that includes lots of fresh vegetables and freshly prepared side dishes and meats.
