Savannah Musicians Institute is a small Music Education Studio of Professional Musicians with a deep love of music. Each of us has been teaching music lessons and performing music in the Savannah, GA area and beyond individually and together for decades. Private Lessons can offer students at all ages much needed help advancing in not only school bands and choirs, but academically as well.
Many schools offer opportunities to go to All-State, Ensemble Festivals, and other auditioned opportunities (not to mention next level ensembles and college auditions). For instruments not traditionally in schools, one-on-one attention can help open technical music doors that self taught students don't often think about.

What do we teach
Report
If you are looking for a very relaxed and friendly environment, this is it! I have been learning with Joe, the guitar instructor, for a few months now and my guitar skills have improved immensely. I went from learning a few chords to learning songs in a couple of months. He is very knowledgeable and adaptable to all styles of music.
Should I take Vocal Lessons
Report
Often we hear these two terms used interchangeably, but there is a difference between a "Vocal Coach" and a "Vocal Teacher". A Vocal Coach is often a professional singer or performer that helps other singers with style, performance, and performance practice. They pass on what they have learned and seen to help those around them, but may or may not have formal education to back up their expertise.

About SMI
Report
Savannah Musicians Institute started with a group of established music teachers teaching with a local Music Retail Store. In 2010, the store had some misfortune and was in the process of closing. Jon Willis, Joe Flanders and Audrey Allgaier, with 1 other teacher and a repairman, decided to pool our resources and find a place we could teach without the distraction of a sales environment.

Music is an all inclusive subject. Math, History, Science, Muscle Coordination, and so much more go into the process of making music. Developmentally, research supports the listening to music at the earliest of ages (including in utero!) helps with the developement of cognitive and physical developments.
